How the CREW Program Works
The CREW program runs annually from September to April and consists of three main components.
Experiential Learning
All students must be currently enrolled or participating in an experiential learning opportunity with a DoD, DoE, or defense industry partner.
Eligible experiential learning opportunities include internships, jobs, research assistantships, and capstone or senior projects. Contact the CREW team to discuss your specific situation or confirm your opportunity qualifies.
National Security Affairs Seminar
The National Security Affairs Seminar is designed to engage students in the complexities of today’s national security environment. The course offers a broad curriculum in security studies that encompasses a diverse spectrum of academic readings, contemporary issues, and perspectives.
This non-credit course meets in-person every other week in the evening from September to April. Students are expected to complete readings, online discussions, and reflections to prepare for each class session (approximately 2 hours per week).
Security Clearance Initiation
PSL is able to initiate clearances at the DoD Secret level*, typically at the start of the program in the Fall semester. Interim clearances are often granted within 2-4 weeks and many students have received full clearances by the end of the Fall semester.
*Security clearance initiation is contingent on the status of PSL’s contract with the U.S. Department of Defense.
The CREW team works to assemble the next cohort in the late summer and early fall.
